I went back to DC a few weeks ago and met LaWanda and LaShaun, and had a great time! I love fun couples, fun couples in love, and fun couples in love who love to laugh! LaWanda and LaShaun were no exception. They’re getting married on July 4 and I can’t wait to shoot their wedding! Here’s a few sneak peeks from their engagement session in downtown Occoquan:

Thanks for such an amazing time you two! I can’t wait for your big day!

Last month I got to meet a fabulous couple, Rachel and Joe, and we spent a perfect autumn afternoon at Piedmont Park! The weather couldn’t have been more perfect and the colors of leaves were SO beautiful! They’re getting married next year in a CASTLE in Atlanta and I’m uber excited about documenting their big day! Here are some of my favorites from their engagement session:

I wonder how many more blog posts are going to begin with “I’ve known ______ since the _____th grade.”

I’m happy that a lot of the friends I grew up with are finding love and I’m really blessed to be able to document such an important time in their lives!

Anyway, I’ve known Fred since middle school :) and I was really excited to meet Felicia while I was in DC! We shot in Georgetown which is one of my FAVORITE places to photograph, like in the whole wide world! Textures and colors galore! We ended the evening with some delicious sushi and mojitos at Mate.

They proved to be some of the best models ever despite the humidity that turned my hair into a massive afro :) and the bugs that decided to attack us all at the very end of the shoot!

They met in Love.

No, really, they did! Love is a swanky lounge in DC and they caught eyes there and have been inseparable ever since!

What's so funny!

Awwww!

I love a little sun flare!

That sky was SO dramatic! We were basically standing right between sunny and stormy skies! It was awesome!

Okay…the WHOLE TIME I’ve been editing, I kept saying ‘Awww.’ I mean, doesn’t this photo just make you say ‘Awwww!’ I love they way they look at each other!

:)

Probably one of my favorites from the day, hands down!

Passion!

Felicia and Fred, thank you for letting me spend the day with you! I am so excited to photograph your big day later on this year!

Hey there! So…I’m in the airport and I’d figure I’d share some of the stuff I did this week. I miss home, but I’m glad to be going back to Atlanta!

Of course, I hung out with this guy:

Watched my brother and father partake in some friendly pool competition:

Read a book on the Metro:

Learned that patrons gotta use faith:

Hirshhorned:

Got to meet Chance and Laurence for the first time :) (and again, in May! So excited!)

And hung out with an awesome couple yesterday!

More to come! Bout to board my plane! :)

Linder and Jeff: Engagement Session

In the midst of packing and getting ready to leave the D of C I shot Linder and Jeff’s engagement session at Sugarloaf Mountain and Vineyard in Maryland, which was awesome because it’s AMAZING there and I really really REALLY wanted to see some fall foliage, and it seems every fall for the past few years I’ve been too busy to take a drive someplace desolate and be like OOHH LOOK AT THE REDS AND YELLOWS. Of course, a fear of spiders and bugs and stuff that has more legs than I do also kept me from enjoying the great outdoors. I’m really proud of myself though; despite the warning pamphlet that stated a black bear had been spotted in the woods and the spider the size of Texas that sauntered across a winding road that lead to the top of the mountain, I had no nature freakout whatsoever.

But I digress. Jeff is an engineer, and set his eyes on the very gorgeous Linder at work. The two hit it off and they’ve been together ever since. Linder is an classically trained singer, but unfortunately we didn’t have enough glasses wine to make her belt out a few notes, and get this, my Blackberry doesn’t freakin have video on it so I could record this monumentous occasion and put it on Youtube. It would have been awesome though. I figure we could have done a duet, and Jeff could have ad-libbed, but…maybe another time :)

My faaaavorite:

Linder and Jeff, thanks for such an amazing day! Linder…when you’re ready to do that duet album…call me. I made all-county chorus while in middle school…that’s almost like American Idol. ;)

Jennifer and Dennis: Engaged!

Jen and Dennis (DENNIFER! :) perfect!) have been together for five years, and met in the student center at George Mason University. Jen is also Vanessa’s friend (who btw is Evelyn’s cousin!), and everyone went to GMU (except me, awwwwwwwwwwwww H-U!)

Anywho, Dennis is supercool, because he gave the best birthday present to Jen last year—a relaxing day at the spa, some yummy dinner with some close friends and family, and an engagement ring! They’re going to tie the knot next year, and 21 is a really important number for the two (Jen’s bday is 5/21 and Dennis’ is 2/21, :) THANKS JEN :) , and I’m super excited and counting down the days until then!

We shot in Georgetown on Memorial Day weekend, and whooooo it was hot! But they were super patient, and not at all sweaty (unlike yours truly–give me an 80+ degree day and I look like a basted turkey). Here are a few of my faaaaaavorite shots :)

Vanessa and Erick–She said Yes!

I’ve known Vanessa since we were in middle school…we have years of hilarious stories (mostly centered around Bone Thugs-N-Harmony…umm. Don’t ask.), adventures and misadventures, and I was super excited to help her get into bridal-mode by shooting her engagement photos with her fiance, Erick. I remember when she first met him during undergrad at George Mason, and how they seemed inseparable–think Bennifer, Brangelina….Vericksa? Umm…Okay I tried :(

Here are some of my favorites! I think such a great looking couple :)

Umm…notice the wardrobe/location change? :) Well…the first time we planned the shoot (which was difficult because Erick has a varying work schedule), I got super ready, had my camera (and Behemoth, I wanted to do some LF work for my class, and hey, why not bring it to an engagement shoot?), reflectors, Cory in tow (sometimes he assists me on shoots), and I walk outside to my car–and…it wasn’t there!

I knew it hadn’t been stolen, well, because I live in a neighborhood where people leave their front doors open, so it had to have been towed. I called the towing company number listed on the big sign that says “WE ENFORCE TOWING WE DON’T REALLY EVEN CARE IF YOU LIVE HERE” (it doesn’t really say that), and sure enough, my car was sitting pretty in the tow yard. SINCE WEDNESDAY. I take public transportation to the day job, and usually walk around the back to get to my bus stop, so I didn’t notice my car decided to be towed until SATURDAY, the day of their shoot. Needless to say, we started shooting late, and I always want to make sure my clients (and friends!) are happy, so I offered to do a re-shoot with Vanessa and Erick, which took forever and a day due to Erick’s schedule, wacky weather, and the universe being a meanie :(

Few hundred bucks later, my Scion is happily parked where it normally is, but with a shiny new CURRENT parking decal should a tow truck try any tactics.

Thank you Vanessa and Erick for being sooooo understanding :) I can’t wait to shoot your wedding! (And help with the planning, Vanessa! :)

Kathy and Mike were guests at Evelyn’s wedding, and they tracked me down to shoot their engagement photos!

My first couple of the year! I was so excited! But Mother Nature wasn’t on our side the times we set up to meet…

We finally woke up to a sunny (but 23-degree) morning, and it happened to be Martin Luther King Day! We started off at the Lincoln Memorial and ended at the Monument (which NONE of us had ever been inside of–I’ve been at the steps of the Lincoln, to reflect, though. Okay, fellow Washingtonians, pelt me with your stones…).

I even coined a new term: Numb-Butt. It’s what happens when you sit on cold marble. Repeatedly. :)

Here’s some of my favorite shots:

Kathy + Mike have never been shot by a photographer, so I was really really really happy to be chosen to be their first!

Thanks for being such troopers, Kathy and Mike! I can’t wait until the wedding! :-D

So, if you saw the post about Evelyn + Tim’s wedding, you might have seen a glimpse of Erin and Derek’s beautiful little girls! We went out for a family shoot in old town Annapolis, and had a great time! Derek says he met Erin while hanging out, a couple years back and they have SUCH a beautiful family, and I’m really excited about shooting their September wedding riiiiiiiiiiight on the water! Okay, I’m rambling, on to the pics!

Here’s a favorite of mine, shot by my wonderfully talented co-heckler Val!

Macayla’s expression is PRICELESS in this pic. I have no idea what Val was saying to her to get this reaction!

Maddy kept cracking me up. I told her the ducks at the docks ate hamburgers, but she didn’t believe me :(

The GORGEOUS couple, giving into my wall fixation :)

Derek had a cast on from a manly accident ;-) which I *might* tell y’all about a little later…anyway, Macayla getting a ride:
