Sorting life out…

Posted in Personal, Photo-Field Trips, travel on June 30th, 2008

I tend to shoot things just because I think it looks cool, copy them to a hard drive and then forget about them until I go to my “Sort Me Out” folder (yes, I really do have one :( and yes, it’s got a LOT of random photos in it), and go ‘Oh wow, when did I shoot this?’

This was one such occasion. I met up with a photographer friend one fine afternoon in Georgetown some months ago, shot these photos, and then forgot that I ever shot them.

Little Ant

See the little ant? He was ready for his photo op :)

Coming this week, he’s BACK! My adorably less angry, more toothy, running walking nephewww!

(No, his photos don’t go into my ‘Sort Me Out’ folder…)

Jennifer: Feroche and Expecting!

I’m baaaaaaack! Well, I never really went anywhere, just got bogged down a little by awful hideous GRE math workbook stuff :( Yes. I have a psych degree and I loathe standardized testing.

Anywho, I had a GREAT maternity session with Jennifer a few days ago! She and her husband are expecting their first child (a little girl!) and she wanted to document such an important time in their lives, and well, I happily obliged. :)

I think we women are fierce, feroche sexy creatures, and Jennifer definitely worked it!

For all you ladies expecting, WORK IT. Every time I see pregnant women in the street (and quite often! it’s babyhavin season!), I want to yell at them like Christian from Project Runway and tell them to embrace their fierceness.

Unfortunately, I think my thigh is the size of his body, my hair will coil up in rebellion at the thought of a flat iron, and well, let’s be real, skinny jeans don’t work on me, so in my mind, my inner Christian is yelling at pregnant women.

(aside: Yes, I love Project Runway [and miss it!]. And yes. I love Christian.)

Ah, back to the topic at hand, Jennifer! Her husband is currently deployed, but he’ll be back just in time for the birth (Jennifer’s due soon, like next month!), so hopefully I can introduce y’all to the family sooooon!

Okay, lemme stop blabbing and show you some of my faaaaavorite shots from that day! We shot in her cousin’s GORGEOUS house with all sorts of winding staircases and open floorplans and other awesome things that make photographers want to curl up in a corner somewhere and LIVE THERE.

Proof that I am freaking hilarious. Doesn’t she have a gorgeous smile?

Okay, admittedly, I went OTT (over the top) with silhouettes. I loooooooove silhouettes. And brick walls.

Probably my favorite favorite favorite shot:

And um, we broke that ‘barefoot and pregnant’ stereotype into a grillion pieces. Jennifer ROCKED these stilettos. I admire her, because I can’t even wear flats and not stumble :)

Stilettos!

I had an awesome time, and can’t wait wait wait until the baby’s born! :)

Catching up! Patrick and Lillian :)

Hi readers, please forgive my space cadet-yness, I’ve been horribly busy (moving, and GRE prepping–trying to remember how to add fractions and remember the meaning of big words I’m sure I saw in undergrad…I hope my brain didn’t completely turn to mush, doomsday is JULY 25 :(  omgomgaw!)

So…Patrick is friend from Julie’s (of Julie Napear Photography) high school, and when he found out that Julie is a fantastic wedding photographer, he asked her to photograph his wedding! Unfortunately, Julie was already booked that day (May 24), so she asked if I’d be interested in shooting it for her, and of course I said YES! :)

They are a GORGEOUS couple, and they absolutely ADORE each other, and I was sooo happy I got to photograph such an important day of their lives.

Here are a few of my favorites from that day :)

I got to hang out with Patrick and Lillian the day before, and they wore traditional Vietnamese garb to the rehearsal (an Ao Dai, I believe, I hope my spelling isn’t off *googles* whew it’s not!) so we could snap a couple photos.

Brick wall

I did a bit of vintage-y stuff here:

Hands

 Um, are they not GORGEOUS?

Patrick!

Lil

And then fast forward to the big day! They were married at Oakton United Methodist Church, and it couldn’t have been a more beautiful ceremony. I really am a weepy Wilma, I keep tissues in my pocket and for good reason, when they read their vows to each other, I was a teary-eyed mess. I love love! :)

This is right after the ceremony. I get warm fuzzies when I look at these three pictures:

Just Married!

Wait. Did I mention Lillian is GORGEOUS? Because if I didn’t, OMG she’s GORGEOUS! She worked it for the camera :)

Warm and Blue!

And…I can’t resist a little sun flare. I love how they couldn’t keep their eyes off each other :)

Sun Flare!

:) (does anybody know the meaning of–*picks random GRE vocab flash card out of box—’solecism?’ because, until I flipped the card over, I really didn’t. Pray for me!)

* p.s. I regularly make solecisms in speech. Woohoo, I used it in a sentence :)

Jennifer and Dennis: Engaged!

Jen and Dennis (DENNIFER! :) perfect!) have been together for five years, and met in the student center at George Mason University. Jen is also Vanessa’s friend (who btw is Evelyn’s cousin!), and everyone went to GMU (except me, awwwwwwwwwwwww H-U!)

Anywho, Dennis is supercool, because he gave the best birthday present to Jen last year—a relaxing day at the spa, some yummy dinner with some close friends and family, and an engagement ring! They’re going to tie the knot next year, and 21 is a really important number for the two (Jen’s bday is 5/21 and Dennis’ is 2/21, :) THANKS JEN :) , and I’m super excited and counting down the days until then!

We shot in Georgetown on Memorial Day weekend, and whooooo it was hot! But they were super patient, and not at all sweaty (unlike yours truly–give me an 80+ degree day and I look like a basted turkey). Here are a few of my faaaaaavorite shots :)

Straight up!

Um…okay, I’m not THAT crafty, but I made this sign! :)

The Swedish Embassy is right in the heart of Georgetown, and one of the guys let us take the elevator to the roof! I was super geeked!
